What is Farmpunk?

The last few days this question popped up a few times over Facebook messenger. Let me explain.

Farmpunk is an aesthetic style or an application of technology that seems outdated and looks heavily worn, but is still perfectly functional. By doing so, Farmpunk questions the use of more complicated solutions, the choice of new appliances just for the sake of being newer and highlights sustainable solutions that have stood the test of time. The punk-suffix is inspired by   Steampunk, the subgenre of science fiction which imagines the future, incorporating aesthetics and technology from the steam-powered Victorian era. Farmpunk stands in sharp contrast to Steampunk, in relation to its origin. Where Steampunk is fantasy, Farmpunk is born out of reality. The farm prefix refers to the practicalities of daily use, but does not limit its meaning to agricultural applications. This page is now the official defining reference, as I pulled the word out of my *** last week 🙂 Underneath are some marvellous Farmpunk trucks I’ve spotted this morning 🙂 #farmpunk
