Belgian surrealism: Farid le Fou

For 29 years, this guy was locked up for homicide, armed robbery and taking people hostage. He terrorized prison guards to a degree that he earned the nickname Farid Le Fou (‘Farid the deranged’). In 2015, they cut him free, because he was diagnosed with Ganser Syndrome. Belgian newspapers define this as a state of permanent confusion, due to long term incarceration. Wikipedia defines it as a factitious disorder. A factitious disorder is a condition in which a person acts as if they have an illness by deliberately producing, feigning, or exaggerating symptoms. In layman’s terms: he was faking his illness. Can’t make this stuff up.
