Bike for Dad at the countryside

Today a bike event was held nationwide in Thailand. The idea is to celebrate the King (‘Dad’) and to get the citizens into physical exercise. Most media outlets report about the Bankok edition. This is how Bike For Dad looks in a small countryside elementary school. Naarak khrab!

Thailand turns yellow

On December 5th the Land of Smiles celebrates the King’s birthday, which doubles as Father’s Day. Neighbours help each other to clean the neighbourhood, everyone (and almost everything) is dressed in yellow (‘sie luang’) and all Amphurs (district capitals) and some Tambons (subdistricts) host a ceremony to celebrate the nation’s father. This level of patriotism does not exist in Western countries. If I had a Baht for every yellow T-shirt or polo that is sold in December, I could definitely retire.
