‘The best pizza of Vilvoorde and surrounding area’. Felix Pizza in Vilvoorde has chosen quite the audacious tag line. I do like the implied confidence, but it does sound like a challenge. With a growing number of pizza parlors in my hometown, there are a lot of contenders for the title. Off the top of my head, there’s Testa Rossi, Barino, Pizza Vera, Pizza Talia, Domino’s and Pizza Hut. Main rival in the region is Il Casale in Grimbergen, in my opinion. Does Felix Pizza measure up? Let’s have a look.
Located at the Mechelsestraat 52, Felix Pizza does have the advantage of a lot of parking space in the direct vicinity. At the intersection of the Spuymolenstraat, Franklin Rooseveltlaan and Mechelsestraat the pizza parlor is conveniently located. As an additional reference, they are using the former location of the Kunstparadijs art and framing shop.
Even though it is possible to enjoy your pizza on the spot, Felix Pizza is really intended as a take-way restaurant. In a hurry, the location is suitable, but I would not recommend Felix Pizza for a comfortable night out.
The menu is not elaborate but sufficient, which I like a lot. It guarantees freshness of produce and focus on what they are best at. Specializing in original Italian pizzas, Pizza Talia, Pizza Hut and Domino’s are eliminated as direct competitors. With Testa Rossi and Barino putting emphasis on hospitality and eating in, Pizza Vera remains as direct competition.
The quality of the dough and toppings are absolutely excellent at Felix Pizza, really top notch. Then again, the pizzas are slightly smaller compared to other Italian restaurants (and Pizza Vera). As they are slightly cheaper as well, this cancels the previous argument out.
Are Felix Pizzas superior to the benchmark? As much as I would like to have the best pizzas right at my doorstep, I’m sorry to have to give a negative answer. Il Casale still has a superior pie. That makes Felix Pizza the best pizza in Vilvoorde, but not the surrounding area.
Will I visit them again? Sure, I definitely want to try their Calzone. When I do, I’ll let you know.
