Loy Krathong 2016

Initially, I wasn’t planning a post about this year’s Loy Krathong festival. Due to the unfortunate passing of King Bhumibol, festivities in Ranka Yai were highly muted and limited to floating the little boats. Additionally and quite frankly, I messed the pictures up. Oblivious to the fact that I hadn’t been practicing photography for more than 5 years, I decided to take them in manual mode … not my best idea. But how could I completely skip one of Thailand’s most beautiful traditions? With some editing voodoo, I was able to make a few images presentable. The result is available in this picture gallery. They aren’t up to my personal standards, but at least I can share something. The pictures will improve, promised. 🙂 Oh and if you don’t want to know what happens to the Krathongs and the offerings after they float off, please don’t click Continue Reading.

Children get into the water and remove all valuables from the baskets. Kind of disappointing isn’t it?
